The Vikings are Coming!

Come join the Sons of Lugh, Viking Age Living History to explore aspects of the Viking Age in their indoor encampment. Sons of Lugh is a Manitoba-based, not-for-profit reenactment group specializing in Viking-age Living History.

Our primary area of focus is on what are often known as the Hiberno-Norse. These were the raiders, traders and settlers who traveled the coasts of Scotland and the Irish sea, and who were a key part of the Scandinavian settlement in Iceland and Greenland. They even explored the east coast of what is now Canada, briefly settling at sites like L'Anse aux Meadows.

We share our passion for this dynamic period of history by trying to give people a glimpse of how life was a thousand years ago, through costumed interpretation, craft displays and even mock battles. We have provided living history encampments and exhibits at community festivals and events across the province for over 10 years. In addition to the Manitoba Highland Gathering, our members can be seen showcasing our talents and sharing our knowledge at events such as the Gimli IceFest, the Icelandic Festival of Manitoba, and the Swords and Sabres Festival.

There will be all manner of crafts on display and our members would love to talk to you about any aspect of this dynamic period of history. Check out our rebated steel combat display, pick your champion and cheer for them (Monty Python references are on-theme and always appreciated)

If you have an interest in cosplay, historic crafting or hitting people with swords there is something for you here. And if you have always wondered how you might get involved in this kind of thing we would love to talk to you further.
